Call for Entries: Book Moby's Poet Three Contest (Thailand)
Deadline: 17 March 2013

Update on 'Reaching The World’ International Writers Summit at Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand)
Date: 5 - 6 November 2012
The 2012 South East Asian Writers Awards (“The S.E.A.Write Award”), in collaboration with Asia Pacific Writers & Translators Association (AP Writers) and the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, will present an international writers’ and translators’ Summit entitled “Reaching the World” and a series of Author Showcases at the University’s Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building from Monday, 5 – 6 November 2012.
“Reaching the World” is Bangkok’s first international festival for writers and translators, bringing together authors from around Asia, the Pacific to share their work in conjunction with one of Asia’s longest-running and most prestigious literary events, The S.E.A. Write Award.
The two-day Summit, initiated by AP Writers, and also supported by Culture Sports & Tourism Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration 2, SCG Foundation and Post Publishing (Public) Co., Ltd., brings together about 80 authors, literary translators, publishers, emerging writers, literary scholars and others from some 20 countries. They include 15 participants from Australia (some of whom were supported financially by the Australia-Thailand Institute); five participants supported by Air Asia from nearby Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia; as well as writers from Bangladesh, the Peoples’ Republic of China and the Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, UK, USA and Thailand.
“Reaching the World” has been designed to look at the value of literary prizes in escalating an awardee’s career and also perhaps as recognition of the writer’s ability to capture some essence of community or national identity. It will also discuss the importance of quality literary translations to gain writers and a nation’s literature the global readerships they deserve.
The Summit will be opened by the President of Chulalongkorn University, Professor Pirom Kamolratanakul, MD. Special guest speaker kicking-off the discussion of literary prizes is the Australian author Matthew Condon who has fought to reinstate the major literary prizes in his State of Queensland after recent government cut-backs that saw these axed. Other special guest speakers and participants include Daniel Hahn from the British Centre for Literary Translation, Professor Edmund Thumboo, 1979 S.E.A. Write Awardee from Singapore, Harold Stephens, well-known author, travel writer and adventurer as well as Simon Winchester, the 2012 S.EA. Write Awards keynote speaker.

Call for Submissions for Hitherto: Mahidol University's Literary Journal (Thailand/ Asia-wide)
Submissions from those outside the International College community, from other Mahidol University colleges, from other Thai universities, and from individuals from all areas of the world, are welcome!
ABOUT HITHERTO
Hitherto is the online literary journal of Mahidol University International College in Thailand. Mahidol University is well-respected for its scientific research, especially in the field of medicine, and also for its College of Music. The International College offers a variety of mostly business-oriented major programs. The establishment of a literary journal is part of the efforts of the Humanities and Languages Division to promote interest in the English language, literature, and creative writing.
Hitherto is edited by four faculty members of the Humanities and Languages Division. Their expertise range from English as a Foreign Language, comparative literature, philosophy, and the varied creative writing genres. They are assisted by students from the International College who demonstrate competence in the English language, interest in literature, and knowledge of computer technology.
Most of the featured written pieces in the first issue of Hitherto have been culled from assignment submissions to the short story, poetry, and philosophy courses at the International College. There are also a few pieces by faculty members, and in the future, Hitherto hopes that staff as well will submit written pieces.
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
-All writing and artwork must be original and not previously published.
-The journal shall retain rights for first publication.
-After publication in the journal, the rights to the written piece or artwork revert back to the author.
-Simultaneous submissions—when you submit the same piece to other journals at the same time as you submit it to MUIC’s literary journal—are acceptable. However, please let us know if you choose to publish in another journal.
-Include a short biography—two to five sentences—with your submission.
STORIES:
-We prefer stories that provide honest insight into the human condition.
-The story should be between 350 words to 6,000 words.
-It should contain almost no grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. Writers must be willing to work with the editorial staff to correct remaining errors and issues with content.
-Each writer may submit more than one story.
-Save the story as a Microsoft Word file, doc or docx. Use a separate file for each story.
-E-mail the story as an attachment to the fiction editorial staff: jingalinggaling@hotmail.com.
POETRY:
-We prefer poems on fundamental themes of human life.
-We love poems that avoid clichés, use rich imagery, and have clarity.
-We accept traditional forms such as sonnets, tercets, and quatrains, and also free verse and shape poems with readable language.
-We do not accept unreadable experimentation with spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
-Poems should be between two to fifty lines.
-Each poet may submit more than one poem.
-Save the poem as a Microsoft Word file, doc or docx. Use one file for all poems submitted.
-E-mail the poem as an attachment to the poetry editorial staff: muicpoetry@yahoo.com.
