Bangkok's First International Festival for Writers and Translators: Reaching the World

We invite you to register to ‘Reaching the World’ Summit and Literary Festival in Bangkok organised by Asia Pacific Writers & Translators (AP Writers) and South East Asian Writers’ Award (S.E.A. Write), with host - Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok.

‘Reaching the World’ is Bangkok’s first international festival for writers and translators, bringing together authors from around Asia, the Pacific to share their work in conjunction with one of Asia’s longest-running and most prestigious literary events, the South East Asian Writers Awards (S.E.A. Write Award).

This literary showcase begins with a Two-day Summit, hosted by the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. This explores the value of literary prizes and the need for quality literary translations to take Asian writers to a global market.

‘Reaching the World’ also includes:
  • Creative Writing Workshops in Poetry, Fiction and Creative Non Fiction, led by international author-mentors.
  • Author Showcase Readings throughout the week by award-winning Thai and visiting poets and writers.
  • The S.E.A. Write Awards Presentations Gala Dinner at Bangkok’s legendary Mandarin Oriental Hotel, in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Mahidol.
The South East Asian Writers’ Awards (The S.E.A. Write Award) has recognized and honoured contemporary poets and writers in Southeast Asia since 1979. This annual award, founded by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok, in conjunction with Italthai Group of Companies, Thai Airways International Public Co., Ltd. and Bangkok Bank Public Co., Ltd., originally celebrated the hotel’s long association with authors. The gala award evening enjoys patronage from Thailand’s royal family. ‘Reaching the World’ seeks to maximize the reach of the award celebrations and reinvigorate this long-established institution.

Asia-Pacific Writers & Translators (AP Writers) is an association for authors and literary translators. Its mission is promote fine writing and advance the careers of authors and translators. It welcomes new members, including emerging writers and others interested in literature from Asia and the Pacific.

Chulalongkorn University (or ‘Chula’) is Thailand’s oldest and most prestigious university, founded in 1917 by King Rama VI. Chulalongkorn University ranks the first in the nation and one of the best in Asia.
