Salt is an up and coming independent arts magazine based in Jeddah, each issue is conceptually based around a title or theme that the audience can respond to with artwork, poetry, doodles, whatever creative medium you like.

The Newsroom functions as a pool of writers and editors. The Writer Editors prepare material for multiple channels as needed on a content-by-content basis as assigned by Supervisor. Writer Editors are able to multi-task across channels and may capture multiple content inputs through text, audio, photo and video, depending on event and capability.

Amongst other duties, this senior editorial role is responsible for the production of both print and electronic publications, including weekly, monthly and ad hoc materials and management of the overall editorial calendar and content plan for publications and publication production.

Duties & Responsibilities

Edits news items, features and columns written by staff or contributors by checking for factual accuracy, making certain copy conforms with Company editorial policy and checking all details of editorial style for consistency with the relevant publication-style manual.

Writes articles on major Company operations and projects, often consulting with subject matter specialists including special diversified stories conducting interviews and researching subject matter, as necessary, to develop information.

Follows all production steps at the local press as assigned. This includes after-hours work and weekends as necessary.

Clears articles for publication by submitting draft to concerned members of management up to and including the Chairman of the Board.

Originates, updates/edits booklets and brochures as required by all Aramco departments. These include booklets on the oil industry, benefits pamphlets, recruitment brochures, training booklets, etc., involving consulting references and other sources for authenticity and accuracy.

Writes/edits material used by all departments in written and audio- visual productions intended for presentation or distribution both within and outside the Aramco community. This includes editing for style and compliance with Company policies on sensitive issues.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most intriguing and challenging assignments for any Reuters correspondent. Regional unrest has added a layer of complexity to a place that was already grappling with change. Even though it is the largest economy in the Middle East and the world's largest petroleum exporter, Saudi Arabia is still faced with a rapidly growing, younger population, joblessness and the need to adapt to a rapidly changing global economy. On top of all of that, there is a succession looming, a potential civil war ready to erupt in neighbouring Yemen and fears over Iran's influence in the region. Few countries offer the chance to meld a financial story with geopolitical risk -- something of increasing interest for the expanded Thomson Reuters client base. Reuters enjoys a dominant position in this market and seeks to defend it from aggressive competition.


Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have experience in the Middle East, manage a difficult file where diplomatic skills are vital, and have a nuanced understanding of relevant religious and cultural differences. The ability to speak, read and understand Arabic is mandatory. We're looking for an accomplished writer who will be able to hit the ground running and write with authority soon after taking up the assignment. We're also looking for someone who can write across the file - from religion to politics to energy and economic reforms. Strong news judgment and writing skills are paramount. The candidate will need to set the agenda, act independently, show initiative and be willing to put in long hours when news breaks. The successful candidate will need to manage a small team of correspondents.

Nominations for the second OPEC Award for Journalism are now on. Interested journalists, analysts and media organizations are invited to nominate candidates for this Award, which will be presented in Vienna, Austria, in June 2012.


Objective of the Award

The OPEC Award for Journalism honours journalists, analysts and Organizations that have devoted their careers to objective, balanced reporting on - and analysis of - the oil market. Such work would have contributed to a greater understanding of the workings of the global oil market over a significant period.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all print and broadcast journalists and analysts (including those from OPEC Member Countries) that have reported on - and analysed - the industry for more than ten years.

The Arch and the Butterfly by Mohammed Achaari and The Doves’ Necklace by Raja Alem were announced as joint winners of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2011. This is the first time the Prize has been split between two novelists.

Jonathan Taylor, the Prize’s Chair of Trustees, commented: “These are interesting times for Arabic fiction, which are reflected in today’s exceptional announcement. For the first time the Judges decided that the Prize should be shared between two extraordinary books selected from an outstanding shortlist.”

Synopsis

Tackling the themes of Islamic extremism and terrorism from a new angle, The Arch and the Butterfly explores the effect of terrorism on family life. It tells the story of a left-wing father who one day receives a letter from Al-Qaeda informing him that his son, who he believes is studying in Paris, has died a martyr in Afghanistan. The novel looks at the impact of this shocking news on the life of its hero and consequently on his relationship with his wife.

Biography

Mohammed Achaari is a Moroccan poet born in 1951. He published his first poetry collection in 1978. He has written ten books of poetry, a short story collection and a novel. He has worked in journalism and politics, which has led him to take up various government posts, including that of Minister of Culture in Morocco.

The secret life of the holy city of Mecca is revealed in this astonishing story. Biography

Raja Alem is a Saudi novelist. She began publishing her work in the cultural supplement of the “Riyadh” newspaper and began writing experimental plays for the theatre. She has won many prizes, the most recent of which was in 2005 – the Arabic Women’s Creative Writing Prize on the occasion of the 6oth anniversary of the founding of UNESCO; and the Lebanese Literary Club Prize, in Paris, 2008. Some of her works have been translated into English and Spanish.

Script Writer

We seek an experienced Video Program Script Writer to work with our Video Development Group. This Group is part of the Corporate Brand Management Division of the Public Relations Department of Saudi Aramco. The remit of the Division is to promote, protect, preserve and enhance the internal, domestic and international brand image of the company. The company has a significant in-house video production and post production facility that produces programming to a high standard using state-of-the-art broadcast standard equipment.

Job Description:

Teaches English as a Second Language to Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces (RSADF) personnel and cadets in a classroom environment.

The individual will conduct English Language classes and labs in accordance with the established Program of Instruction ( POI ) and review progress of assigned class or students. The individual will administer and evaluate tests and examinations, submit attendance and grade reports, prepare materials and reports, and counsel students as necessary. The position also includes participation in scheduled functions, training seminars, meetings, orientations, visits, and performs other related duties as required or directed.

All offers are contingent on the candidate's ability to meet requirements for a Saudi Arabia WORK VISA. Depending upon the location, the candidate may be required to pass additional medical test, credit checks, and/or other requirements. Publishing Perspectives and Arabic Literature have called the recent book signing by female authors a new phenomenon.

Samar Fatany, Dr. Soad Jaber, Dr. Amal Shata, and Etidal Etaiwi were seen signing their books at Virgin Megastore in Roshana International Center in Saudi Arabia. In an article in Arab News, Fatany was quoted as saying, “The Kingdom is experiencing a transformation of society. I’ve witnessed these changes with a particular eye on the changing role of Saudi women in society. This book is a reflection of the challenges associated with change and a celebration of a new era in which women take on an increasingly important role as partners in shaping the Kingdom’s future.”
