SOLE JUDGE Michael Simmons Roberts

His poetry has won the Whitbread Poetry Award, and been shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize, the Forward Prize, and twice for the T.S. Eliot Prize. He has received major awards from the Arts Council and the Society of Authors. His continuing collaboration with composer James MacMillan has led to two BBC Proms choral commissions, song cycles, music theatre works and an opera for the Welsh National Opera – ‘The Sacrifice’ – which won the RPS Award for opera. His broadcast work includes ‘A Fearful Symmetry’ - for Radio 4 - which won the Sandford St Martin Prize, and ‘Last Words’ commissioned by Radio 4 to mark the first anniversary of 9/11.

Competition Rules

- Closing date for receipt of entries: 30th November 2010
- Maximum of 40 lines (excluding title) on one side of A4.
- The Prize is open to anyone other than Café Writers’ committee members.
- Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published or published on any web-site or broadcast.
- We regret that entries cannot be returned.
- Entries must be your own original work and in English.
- No corrections can be made after receipt, nor fees refunded.
- Entries must show no name, address or identifying marks other than the title.
- Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but Café Writers will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning poems on its web-site and in press releases publicising the competition.
- The judge’s decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into.
- Entry implies acceptance of all the rules. Failure to comply with the entry requirements will result in disqualification.

Prizewinners will be notified in writing by 31st January 2011. The list of prizewinners will be displayed on the website after the prize-giving ceremony at Café Writers on 12th February 2011.

Receipt: Enclose a stamped addressed postcard marked ACKNOWLEDGEMENT or include your email address on your entry form and you will receive an email acknowledgement.

Email entries will receive a payment receipt from Paypal (only).

Results: To receive, enclose a stamped addressed envelope marked 'RESULTS'.
