The Anvil Publishing Inc., in cooperation with the National Book Store (NBS) and the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) announces the nationwide launching of an essay-writing competition entitled "If Rizal Had Been a Blogger, What Would He Have Blogged About?" The deadline for submission of entries is August 5, 2011.
The competition is open to all high school students aged fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) years old studying in the Philippines. Only one student is allowed to win per school.
The following are the mechanics of the competition:
1. The high school students must personally research about the experiences and works of Jose Rizal as a novelist, and journalist letter-writer;
2. He/She must write an essay with at least eight hundred (800) words entitled "If Rizal Had Been a Blogger, What Would He Have Blogged About?";
3. Each student should submit an original, unpublished, logical, cohesive and fluently developed essay which captures some of the issues and concerns in Rizal's time as recorded in his many writings and correspondences;
4. Each manuscript should be typed or computer-printed on plain, white, letter-size paper with pages numbered consecutively and double-spaced, with writing on one side, with more than 12 characters per inch or no less than 10-point type and with total word count appearing at the end of the essay;
5. Each entry should be accompanied by a fully accomplished entry form cut out from the Philippine Daily Inquirer's Learning Section (photocopies not acceptable) and glued on a sheet of paper that serves as cover; and
6. Each entry must consist of the following: (a) the essay manuscript together with the fully accomplished entry form; (b) an endorsement from the student's History or English teacher; and (c) a certification from the school principal that the entrant is a full-fledged secondary student of the school.
