Malaysians aged between 14 and 18 are invited to compete in the Dublin Literary Award Essay Competition for Young Malaysians 2011, beginning Friday.
The competition is jointly organised by the Embassy of Ireland, with the cooperation of the National Library and Star Publications, supported by the education ministry.
Irish Ambassador to Malaysia, Declen Kelly, said the competition was divided into two categories to ensure the younger entrants were not disadvantaged.
One category involves those aged between 14 and 15, while the other entails those aged from 16 to 18.
"The competition would provide a great opportunity for young Malaysians to demonstrate their writing skills in English in an imaginative and creative way, based on this year's topic, 'Teenagers Today'.
"I am looking forward to seeing some of the essays to find out how teenagers in the 21st century feel about life," he said after launching the competition at the National Library here Friday.
Participants are required to submit their entries in 800 to 1,200 words. All entries must include the participant's full name, identity card number, address, telephone number, email address and name of school.
The winner will receive a trip for two to Dublin to attend the gala prize-giving ceremony for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the largest international prize, and visit some of Ireland's educational institutions.
