Deadline: 25 April 2011
Location: Abu Dhabi, Middle East
Website: http://www.thenational.ae
Description:
The National, a daily newspaper and website based in Abu Dhabi, is seeking a web editor to manage our fast-evolving digital output from the business section. Our team of 20 business reporters already produce the best business coverage in the Middle East and we are adding to our web editing team to leverage this premium content into a world-class digital offering. The successful candidate will probably have a background in business news, but also experience in website management.
The successful candidate will act as a "slot" on the editing desk of the business section, breaking stories from our team of reporters throughout the day to ensure we are first for breaking business news in the region.
He or she will help foster a web culture among reporters and decide on placement of stories, and links to packages, liaising with multimedia to bundle together graphics, sidebars, timelines, podcasts, videos and pictures. He or she will take the lead on uploading stories to the website each evening and oversee the website on Saturdays.
The web editor will oversee blogs to ensure they are regularly updated and conform to house style, and will also help guide our video content. He or she will help compile our daily newsletter and set up email blasts for breaking news and keyword alerts. Identifying ways for the print and digital products to interact and cross promote will also be part of the remit, driving traffic to both products. He or she will also seed our content and link to social media forums. Some knowledge of the Middle East or Arabic would be an advantage, but more important is your enthusiasm, maturity and ability to deliver. Send a short letter with a CV, clips and references to jobs@thenational.ae, marked "business web editor" in the subject line.
