ButterTree Seeks Short Stories from Writers Aged 40 and Up
ButterTree Press is collecting stories for the Autumn edition of Henwit. The theme is Gathering. "If wishes were horses, we all would ride." Remember when older women still said things like that to us children? My resentment of that particular statement was in direct proportion to how deeply I wished for something! And as they knew, of course, I would eventually grow up, mature, and understand the wisdom of their maxims.

We are interested in submissions from men or women writers age 40 and older, about lessons learned from an elder woman in their childhood or young adulthood. We are looking for contributions that are predicated on a maxim, proverb, old wives tale, etc., that was used to illustrate a lesson to you -but which you may not have fully understood or appreciated until you were older, more mature. Tell us about the experience that you had later in life that finally brought remembrance, understanding and appreciation of what she had told you, once-upon-a-time.

Submissions should be between 200 - 750 words.

Payment: Free advertising for each contributor, within the publication. Three free issues of the publication in which you are published.

Deadline: August 15, 2010
