National Book Trust, India (NBT), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, is a highly professional multilingual publishing institution working in the field of quality publication and for the promotion of Indian books and dissemination of book culture in India.
The National Action Plan for the Readership Development among the Youth (NAPRDY) was unveiled in 2008 to focus on the reading needs of the young readers in the age group of 15-25 starting with First Ever National Youth Readership Survey. With the implementation of NBPP we wish to revive the book culture particularly among children and youth.
With this objective- Consortium Octet, a non profit, secular, apolitical academic ensemble forum , in joint association , with Delhi University –English Department,NBT & the book publishing Industry is instituting a ‘NATIONAL YOUTH DEBUT FICTION AWARD’ by inviting youth debut authors between the age group of 15-25 to participate in a national competition for selection of best 100 writers by a panel of literary academicians & editors of English literature & language, to be published by the publishers and promote the debut talented young writers.
The promotional award will promote literary readership and help to identify the latent literary potential in the youth.
The award will be non-financial promotional incentive only ,other than the contract amount paid by the publishers for the copyright or royalty offered by them to the selected writers independent of this promotional award scheme.
To revive the youth literary & readership culture , Consortium Octet, Delhi University English Department & DSBPA will invite Youth Writers in India in the age group 15-25 years to send in their manuscripts in English language for entry for the awards, which will open on 15 June , 2012 and close on midnight 15 December 2012. There is no entry fee for the promotional award scheme.
Up to 1,000 each of the synopsis in the children fiction and youth fiction categories will be accepted for submission of the manuscripts to be shortlisted.
The Editors panel will select Two Winners, One for Children Fiction and One for Best Youth fiction, with sponsored awards, including a publishing contract by the participating book publishers.
Initial Round: Panel screening sub-editors will select up to 1,000 synopsis entries from each category to advance to the next round.
Quarter-Finals: Expert screening sub-reviewers will read excerpts of the 2,000 entries and narrow the pool to the quarter-finalists (250 in each category).
Semi-Finals: Publishers /Editors will read, rate and review the full manuscripts, and 50 semi-finalists for each category will be selected.
Finals: Editors will evaluate the manuscripts invited from the 50 general fiction and 50 Young Adult semi-finalists, and choose three finalists for each award.
Final Winners: Two panels of esteemed publishing professionals will post their critiques of all the finalists on : . The two award Winners will be felicitated on 4 Feb 2013, on the the inaugural day of the 21 st New Delhi World Book fair 2013 with the release and launch of the selected fictions on the ‘Debut Youth Fiction’ award ceremony 2013.
