It is our pleasure to invite you to the Center for Babaylan Studies 3-day symposium/retreat, Decolonization and Indigenization as a Path to the Sacred, on August 5th - 7th, 2011 at Sonoma State University featuring Professor Felipe De leon, Jr., Commissioner, National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Professor of the Humanities, University of the Philippines. He will present different indigenous knowledge systems, practices or modalities of the Philippines, as is manifest in Schools of Living Traditions.


This will be a focused three-day interactive symposium limited to 30 participants:

Day 1 will focus on Decolonization: Naming our Grief
Day 2 will focus on Indigenization: The Wisdom of our Ancestors
Day 3 will focus on Kapwa: Our Wholeness, Our Service

The symposium activities will include ritual, sharing circles, talks on indigenous knowledge systems, storytelling, Kapwa jamming, artistic/creative expressions, and more.

On the last day of the weekend we will focus on integrating and sharing the learnings from the first two days, We will strengthen our community ties by being witness to individual and shared vision and support each other in fulfilling our personal commitments to Kapwa to the benefit of our communities.

Due to the limited number of participants we can accommodate at this symposium/retreat, we invite you to apply. Applications will be screened based on the applicant’s responses to questions in an application and the overall relevance to the impact and or contribution of the symposium to their future work in their respective communities.

Dates: August 5-7, 2011

Tuition: $200 (includes breakfast, lunch, and materials) (25% discount for students and seniors)

Lodging at the SSU Tuscany Townhouses (http://seawolfsuites.sonoma.edu/) is approximately $30/night (kitchen facilities included)
