Waiting Out the Rain
Sitting with a cup of tea, I stare. The downpour has just ceased.
Huge drops fall off the edge of the awning. Across the road, the
green and red of the miniature pagoda are sheltered by the golden edge
of the gate’s upturned corners.
I cannot say:
Am I looking at raindrops rapidly falling against the garish colors of
the temple backdrop?
Or am I looking at the bright pagoda through the screen of the rain’s
remnants?
And then, the light up the road changes, red to green.
My question is settled by a lorry, the answer emblazoned on its side.
