The Department of Foreign Language and Literatures of National Taiwan University has been holding the NTU Literary Translation Awards to promote to the world classical Chinese literature and translation of such works. The awards consist of cash prizes and certificates, while awarded works are published.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the awards is to promote translation of Chinese literature classics, presenting the beauty and the profoundness of Chinese literature to people who are not familiar with the Chinese language from around the globe.
ENTRY: Entrant must send English translation of the selected poems to the organizer before deadline. Please see the awards website for full texts of the poems.
JUDGING: Judging of entries will be conducted in two phases: preliminary and final. The organizer will invite professors and writers to be judges, and will release the judge list along with the final results of the awards. If the quality of entries falls below the required standard, the judges can decide not to award a prize/prizes.
PRIZES: Winners of the awards will be selected from each of the two groups, including the College and University Students Group and the Public Group. The first place winner will be granted NTD 50,000; the second place winner NTD 30,000; the third place winner NTD 10,000; the participant awards winners NTD 5,000. The winners will also receive certificates from the organizer. The prizewinning translations will be published online and in print.
ENTRANTS: College and university students and members of the public who are interested in literary translation are all welcomed to join the competition.

- Entry form
- An entry will not be accepted if the information required on the form is incomplete.
- Entry into the competition signifies acceptance of all the rules. No feedback on the final results can be provided.
- Photocopy of the front and back of your ID card or passport.
- Entrants for the College and University Students Group must also submit a photocopy of the front and back of their student cards.
- Education and work experience in any format.
- Your translation in four copies
- Entries must consist of two parts. Both parts must be in English and be printed on A4 sheet(s).
- Please also send the electronic file of your translation in word format via email at the organizer’s email address. If the electronic copy is not consistent with the paper copy, judges’ decisions will be based on the electronic version.
- Entries must be submitted anonymously. There must be nothing on it which might identify the translator.
- Manifest form
- Source texts of entries are limited to the poems provided by the organizer. Entries must not have been previously published or accepted for publication, either in print or online, and must not enter for any other competition.
- Copyright infringement and/or plagiarism will result in the disqualification and, if applicable, removal of awards from any entry deemed in violation. The violating entrant’s name will be made public by the organizer, and all entry fees forfeited.
- Each entrant must submit only one entry.
- Postal submissions must be postmarked by Friday, 31 May 2013.

- Please note on the package “NTU Literary Translation Awards” and the group you are joining.
- Please also send an electronic copy of your entry in word format via email at the organizer’s email address (ntuliterarytranslation@hotmail.com.tw) by Friday, 31 May 2013.
- The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the regulations.
- If the quality of entries falls below the required standard, the organizers reserve the right not to award a prize/prizes. If entries are of equal quality, they can be awarded the same prize.
- Entrants agree for the organizer to use the winning entries in any form (such as traditional and simplified versions, digitalization, online publication, CD, audio publication, and print), including sublicensing, in perpetuity without any further payment or royalty to the Entrants. Copyright will remain with the prizewinning entrants.
- The list of winners is schedule to be publicized on the awards website in October, 2013, along with the date of the prize presentation ceremony.
