April: Writer in Residence Workshop "All About Writing Children's Literature" (Ramallah) in partnership with the Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing and in coordination with Tamer Institute
With Writer in Residence Randa Abdel Fattah who was born in Sydney. She is a Muslim of Palestinian and Egyptian heritage. She studied Arts/Law at Melbourne University. Randa has used her writing as a medium for expressing her views about the occupation of Palestine. She is also a regular guest at schools around Australia addressing students about her books and the social justice issues they raise. She has written three novels for young adults, Does My Head Look Big in This?, Ten Things I Hate About Me, Where the Streets Had a Name, Noha's Law, The Friendship Matchmaker, and Buzz Off.
About the Workshop: In partnership with Bloomsbury Qatar Foundatin Publishing and in coordination with Tamer Institute, this training is focused on writing for children and youth audiences. Class sessions are dedicated to both theory and practice, utilizing students writing exercises to enable them to create writing portfolios by the end of the workshop. The training deals with plot, characterization, setting, voice, dialogues, style, and place in children’s and youth literature. Students will be expected to share their work with their peers, receiving feedback from one another and constructive criticism and personal attention from the writer in residence as well.
