Internships may be available in, but are not limited to, the following fields:
* Arts
* Economic Development
* Education
* Environmental Protection
* Public Health
Applicants must indicate in their application the fields in which they are interested in being placed for their internship. Applicants may also specify other fields of interests not listed, keeping in mind that the internship will take place at an NGO. IIE will make an effort to match interns with an organization in their preferred fields. However, we cannot guarantee that students will be placed in one of their preferences.
Applicants must meet ALL of the following eligibility requirements:
1. be a U.S. citizen or Indonesian citizen
2. be currently enrolled as a full-time sophomore or junior pursuing their first bachelor's degree at a U.S. college or university
3. be in good academic standing in their undergraduate university or college program
Applicants must also agree to complete:
* for Indonesian students: a course related to NGO administration in Indonesia during the program period
* for U.S. students: a credit-bearing Indonesian language and culture course in Indonesia during the program period
Applicants must also share their experiences with their peers upon returning to their U.S. campuses.
Award Benefits
The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program will provide American and Indonesian students with a hands-on experience in understanding the vital role that nonprofits can play in advancing Indonesia’s development, while creating opportunities for learning and exchange among service-minded young leaders in both countries.
The program will cover the following costs:
* Visa fees
* Round-trip transportation
* Housing expenses
* Meals
* Local transportation
* Tuition and academic expenses charged by the host institutions in Indonesia
* Health and accident insurance
Students will receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses. Other program-related costs will be paid directly on behalf of students or reimbursed to students.
Students will be responsible for the following additional costs:
* Passport-related fees, if applicable
* Travel vaccinations, if applicable
* Tuition charged by the home institution, if applicable
* Non-program related expenses
* Personal expenses

The Summer 2011 application deadline is March 1, 2011.
Applicants must make sure that the electronic nominations from their Study Abroad Advisers have been completed and submitted to IIE by the deadline date above. IIE must receive both the student application and adviser nomination by the deadline date above for applications to be considered complete.
Study Abroad Advisers may set earlier campus deadlines for submission of the FINIP application. Thus, applicants should contact their advisers about specific campus deadlines before proceeding with the FINIP application.

Applicants and their study abroad advisers will be notified of the selection decisions via e-mail within 4-6 weeks of the application deadline.
