Job Objective:

Responsible for the coverage of business news in the region by collecting information from direct sources (through interviews, conferences) and through constant research (through the news, internet) and write business stories/features of Fortune Magazine's interest, using an unbiased and balanced approach.

Main responsibilities :

- Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal;
- Seeking out and investigating stories via personal and professional contacts, press releases and other media;
- Confer with management and editorial staff members regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories;
- Working closely with the news team, photographers and editors;
- Building contacts to maintain a flow of news, e.g. Police and emergency services, local council, community groups, health trusts, press officers from a variety of organizations, the general public, and so forth;
- Attending press conferences and asking related questions to develop coherent articles;
- Interviewing people in a range of different circumstances;
- Recording interviews and meetings using shorthand or technical equipment;
- Receiving phone calls on the news desk and reacting to breaking news stories;
- Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources;
- Editing and re-writing articles,
- Producing concise and accurate copy according to the newspaper's house style, and to strict deadlines;
- Writing short ‘fillers’ to entertain, and researching and writing longer feature articles, sometimes for subsidiary publications and supplements and/or advertorials;
- Creating and uploading news content for the newspaper website when launched
- Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge -- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Providing weekly/monthly job reports to the managing editor if needed

• Other interactions : Business Personalities, General Public, Fortune Publisher
• Duration : Permanent
• Desired start date : January 2011
• Probation : 3 to 6 months
• Working hours : Sunday- Thursday; 9h00 am - 6h00 pm
• Travel requirements : Occasional travel within country

Package:

+ AED 16,000
+ Bonus: Yearly bonus dependent purely on performance appraisal
+ Other Benefits: Medical Insurance + 1 yearly economy ticket to home country

Requirements

- Experience with business publications; preferably magazines, newspapers.
- Good knowledge and network in the UAE of the corporate, business and government sectors; Good knowledge of local, regional and international current affairs.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the Arabic and English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of media, communication techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
- Ability to produce good work under pressure
- Quick understanding to enable to write with authority of unfamiliar subjects
- General knowledge of GCC/UAE law in order to avoid any conflict or dissent with authorities
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office and Internet Research)
