The Tang Dynasty poem "Chang Hen Ge" ("Song of Unending Sorrow") by Bai Juyi (Po Chu-i) is about the tragic love affair between the Chinese emperor (Tang Minghuang) and his favorite concubine (Yang Guifei) in eighth-century China. The poem was composed in the year 806 by Bai Juyi (born 772 in Xinzheng - died 846 in Luoyang).



Born Wah Kong Chan in Guangzhou (Canton), China and educated in Hong Kong and the U.S., James Chan, Ph.D., started out as a professor of geography with a foucs on China and Asia. James Chan received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1977, M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1973, and B.A. from the University of Hong Kong in 1970.
