ROLE: SUB-EDITOR

We are looking for dynamic, hands-on subeditors with exceptional rewriting skills and news judgment to play a key role in driving forward our equities coverage from Bangalore.

The successful candidates will be experts at ferreting out market-moving, intelligent information from complicated material and making it relevant to our high-profile clients.
They will work across time zones, coordinate with global bureaus and edit reports on some of the biggest companies in the most developed markets in the world.
They should be prepared to offer guidance and support to reporters in breaking news and connecting the dots across reports from various regions.

Reuters equities file from Bangalore is unique and far from ordinary. We tell stories that move markets in the United States, Britain and Canada; we explain major brokerages' comments that could evaporate millions of dollars off companies' market capitalization or generate huge returns for investors.

Our file is getting hotter by the day as the subprime flu in the United States has spread across an array of debt securities, leading to huge credit losses at the world's leading banks. The unprecedented credit contraction, coupled with rising oil prices, has affected many companies across sectors - adding more fuel to our coverage.

The subeditors should be able to handle different story types that range from spot news to detailed analyses and executive interviews on a variety of sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Editing stories and ensuring they meet Reuters standards for accuracy, speed and quality
* Working with business sector editors and other newsroom leaders on top stories, analyses, interviews and priorities

* Liaising with reporters and bureaus in other regions
* Ensuring the file keeps pace with the changing needs of our clients
* Participating in news-planning meetings
* Guiding and coaching reporters to ensure insightful coverage
* Feeding story ideas and mentoring reporters
* Refining, coding and improving content
* Ensuring correct balance, style, objectivity and reliable sourcing
* Providing constructive feedback to/on correspondents/new joiners
* Spotting sector trends and pitching story ideas to various teams

QUALIFICATION

· Strong writing and editing skills

· Willingness to work in shifts, including nights

· Expertise to add insight to stories and bring in an international flavour
