Call for Young Journalists

The hosts of the 14th International Anti-Corruption Conference (14th IACC) and the Asia-Europe Network for Young Journalists invite young journalists working in Asia to be part of the 14th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 10-13 November 2010.

Eight young journalists will be selected and will work together, under the guidance of Transparency International’s Social Media Unit, in a mini IACC “news-room” to interview and/or photograph conference participants and report on the proceedings through various Social Media and New Media channels including the IACC blog, Twitter and Youtube. The selected journalists will also have the opportunity to submit stories to their own news outlets in their respective countries.

What you’ll receive

If you’re chosen, you will be invited to report on the 14th IACC in Bangkok, Thailand. You’ll receive a pre-conference training session with Transparency International, a round-trip airplane ticket to Bangkok, refund for any visa costs, accommodation for five nights, airport transfers, meals and the opportunity to learn more about corruption at a global scale and meet key players in this important field. You will be responsible for your own travel insurance.

What we’re looking for

1. Someone not over 35 years old.

2. A working journalist or blogger of any nationality with at least three years of work experience based in one of the following countries: Bangladesh, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam*.

*Countries where there is a Transparency International national chapter and contact organisation.

We’re looking for one photojournalist, two video broadcast journalists, four print/online journalists, and one tech-savvy journalist with experience working across different platforms.

3. Fluency in English (demonstrated through TOEFL and/or IELTS scores if available).

4. Journalists who are familiar with Transparency International, the IACC Series and the issues we work on.

How do you apply?

Write a short essay (250-300 words) in English on why you want to participate in this conference and what and you can do to contribute to our news team.

Plus, send us links/samples of your prior work in the form of articles, photos, and blogs on topics related to what will be discussed at the conference.

What happens next?

All applications will be reviewed and assessed by a team of representatives from Transparency International, Transparency Thailand and the Asia-Europe Network for Young Journalists.
