Call for Submissions: Duke Undergraduate Journal of South Asian Studies
Deadline: 1 January 2011

The Duke Undergraduate Journal of South Asian Studies (DUJSAS) is currently accepting submissions for its Spring 2011 issue. DUJSAS is accepting essays, seminar papers, and term papers written on one of the following countries and historical regions: Afghanistan Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet. Preference will be given to papers written for humanities or social sciences programs, but papers written for other fields may also be accepted. The deadline is January 1, 2011.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

DUJSAS is currently accepting research papers, seminar papers, and essays written on topics related to South Asia. Preference will be given to submissions written for a humanities or social sciences program, but submissions from other fields may also be accepted for publication.

The region of South Asia comprises the modern nations of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Submissions must be written on a topic related to one or more of these countries or historical regions.

Writers must be currently enrolled undergraduates OR have received an undergraduate degree no more than one year before the submission deadline. Submissions must have been written while the student was enrolled as an undergraduate student.

All of the following must be received by the submission deadline:

1. Cover sheet
2. Written submission
3. Statement of faculty support

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1. Submissions should not exceed 5000 words OR 18 pages, double-spaced, with 1” margins in 12-pt Times New Roman font.
2. Citations must be provided as footnotes, not in-line citations. Follow the Chicago style. Details are available at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html
3. DO NOT include your name or other identifying information within the submission document. Submissions will undergo blind review by a panel of undergraduates and faculty members.
4. Submissions should be saved as one of the following file types: .DOC, .DOCX, or .TXT.

Please name the files as:
a. Cover sheet: STUDENTLASTNAME_Cover.doc (or .docx, or .txt)
b. Written submission: STUDENTLASTNAME_Submission.doc (or .docx, or .txt)
c. Faculty support letter: STUDENTLASTNAME_Support.doc (or .docx, or .txt)

STUDENTS: Please email the cover sheet and written submission together.
FACULTY: Please email the statement of support separately.
