Minority Writers Workshop with The Guardian's Editors (UK)
Deadline: 8 October 2010

Are you a writer with a minority background? Guardian News & Media is always looking for new voices as part of our commitment to the diversity of our editorial content and the writers that we use.

If you belong to a minority group through your ethnicity, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief*, we invite you to apply for a place on a minority writers’ workshop with editors from the Guardian’s G2, Comment, Culture, or Society sections.

Twenty shortlisted writers will be invited to join us for a workshop at the Guardian offices in Kings Place, London on Wednesday 3rd November 2010, to:

• discuss how to approach commissioning editors and pitch your ideas
• explore ways to encourage more writers from minority backgrounds to write for the Guardian • create a link between new writers and Guardian editors
• help Guardian editors to become more conscious of diversity and inclusion issues that affect minority communities

To apply, submit an article (max 400 words) on the theme “I wish...” and three ideas (max 200 words each) for articles in G2, Comment, Culture, or Society plus brief details of your published work.

The deadline is 5pm on Friday 8 October 2010.

* Note: only writers from all minority backgrounds (as defined in sections 47 and 48 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and the Race Relations Act 1976) may apply.
