Minal Hajratwala from India and Palestinian Fady Joudah won the 2010 PEN USA Literary Awards for Research Nonfiction and Translation, respectively.
Joudah is a Palestinian-American poet and physician. He is the 2007 winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition for his collection of poems The Earth in the Attic, which was published by Yale University Press in April 2008. Joudah was born in Austin, Texas in 1971 to Palestinian refugee parents, and grew up in Libya and Saudi Arabia.

RESEARCH NONFICTIONHajratwala is a Fulbright Senior Scholar and will spend the 2010-2011 academic year in India researching a novel. She is a poet and performer based in San Francisco, where she was born before being whisked off to be raised in New Zealand and suburban Michigan.
