The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks an experienced professional to serve as director of writing for the university. This position will require the management of the overall content of university materials including the Web site and publications such as magazines, handbooks, invitations, departmental publications, ad copy and various promotional and informational pieces for all SCAD locations in Savannah, Atlanta, Lacoste (France), Hong Kong and eLearning, and for marquee SCAD events, including the Savannah Film Festival (the largest film festival hosted by a university), the SCAD Fashion Show, SCAD Commencement, and other local, national and international events. The person in this position reports directly to the executive director of communications and works closely with the senior executive administration and the SCAD communications department, serving as a collaborator, strategist, copywriter, editor and liaison for special communications projects of institutional priority. The director of writing supervises writers and editors who are responsible for the content process from concept to information gathering to printing, Web delivery and publication. It is absolutely essential that the director is passionate about, and can speak and write with erudition about, the practices of higher education.
The director will work with other administrators, faculty and staff of SCAD, including vice presidents, to ensure that the vision and priorities are advanced in projects throughout the university. The director will supervise a team of writers within the communications department, providing guidance on the full spectrum of writing projects, and the director will often collaborate with writers/editors in the executive office.
The director possesses superb communication skills and sets the standard for all the university's written communications. Successful candidates will possess a bachelor's degree with five to seven years of relevant experience, and a demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team. Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.
