Pakistani Writer Daniyal Mueenuddin Wins $20,000 Story Prize
After Qais Sedki's win in the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, another Asian debut writer won The Story Prize's $20,000 book award. Daniyal Mueenuddin's collection, "In Other Rooms, Other Wonders," bested 77 other books entered in the contest, representing 53 different publishers and imprints. The two other finalists were Victoria Patterson’s Drift and Wells Tower’s Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned.

The 3 finalists attended the event and discussed their works with Larry Dark, the Director of The Story Prize. Founder Julie Lindsey made the announcement of the big winner shortly after.

46-year-old writer Daniyal is a Pakistani writer with an MFA from the University of Arizona. His works saw print in Zoetrope, The New Yorker, and The Best American Short Stories of 2008 prior to the publication of his book containing 8 interconnected short fiction, four of which are previously unpublished.
