Faculty positions in English-Chinese and Chinese-English Translation

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites qualified academics to apply for the following positions:

1) Lecturer:

Candidates who possess the following are encouraged to apply:

• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area preferred;
• Native or near native proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese;
• Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation, preferably at a tertiary level;
• Practical/Industry experience in English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation preferred;
• Experience in developing English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation teaching materials, including web-based materials; and
• Experience with multimedia and using computer-based instructional technologies.

Teaching experience is essential and experience in professional translation practice will be advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to teach at tertiary level and to offer courses in both Chinese and English.

2) Assistant Professor:

Candidates who possess Ph.D.s, as well as proven track records in teaching and research, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and to offer courses in both Chinese and English.

Most subjects offered by the Division of Chinese are taught in Chinese while the administrative language of the University is English. The Division of Chinese currently offers a Major and a Minor in Chinese, MA and PhD programmes by research, a Minor in Translation and General Elective subjects.
