Deadline: 6 September 2012
Generously supported by the Lee Hysan Foundation, a very meaningful project, "International Poets in Hong Kong", was initiated in 2010. Two poets of international standing are invited each year from 2010 – 2012 to visit Hong Kong for 10 days to 2 weeks and host a series of poetry activities. The public is invited and encouraged to participate. Through events that extend beyond university campuses into the community, we hope to make literature a more prominent part of daily life in Hong Kong. We intend to both broaden the horizons of our high school and college students and encourage creativity and imagination in their local environment. OUP (China) publishes a bilingual poetry collection of original texts and Chinese translations for each invited poet.
"International Poets in Hong Kong" will soon welcome our fifth guest, Adonis, one of the most important poets and theorists of literature in the Arab world, and one of the most important contemporary poets and thinkers in any language or context. A series of poetry activities will take place from 15 to 20 October 2012.
In preparation for Adonis's Hong Kong visit, a 3-day Adonis Poetry Workshop will be organized for public participation. This is an occasion for literature lovers to learn more about Adonis's work, as well as Arabic culture and literature. Candidates who complete the 3-day workshop will have the rare opportunity to discuss Adonis's writing with the author in person during his stay in Hong Kong. The workshop will be facilitated by Professor Xue Qingguo, translator of Adonis’s works. Details of the workshop are given below. Applications must be submitted before 7 September 2012. Spaces are limited. Successful applicants will be notified before 14 September 2012.
