The Friends of Al-Aqsa Essay Competition has been established to encourage critical engagement with the issue of Israel and Occupied Palestine. Entrants should focus their essays on the issue outlined below.
COMPETITION PRIZE - £500
Question: Since Israel was established in 1948, Palestinians and Israelis have been unable to reconcile. Israeli expansionist policies have seen the displacement of Palestinians and violations of human rights protected by international conventions. Jerusalem has become a focal point of division and exclusion where Palestinian life is facing its stiffest challenges. How do these issues impact on the probability and possibility of establishing a one or two-state solution to the conflict?
COMPETITION GUIDELINE
1. All entries must be a minimum of 3,000 words and maximum of 5,000 words.
2. All entries must be the original work of the author(s) and all usual guidelines against plagiarism shall apply.
3. All essays should be fully referenced.
4. Entries much be received by 17 September 2012.
5. Entries should be emailed to: info@foa.org.uk and include a brief CV of author(s).
6. The winning essay will be announced at www.foa.org.uk on 17 November 2012.
7. The winning entry will be selected by a panel of three independent judges. Their decision shall be final.
8. Friends of Al-Aqsa reserve the right to publish any/all of the essay entries on its web-site after the announcement of the winning entry.
9. Entrants must be aged 18 or over.
10. The competition prize is £500 and this is to be shared between the winners where more than one author has contributed to the winning essay.
