Rewriting the World: Science Fiction Short Story Writing Workshop for Women (Lahore, Pakistan)
Date: 18 - 31 July 2012

Are you a female writer interested in exploring a new genre? Mehreen Lerato Ajaz is doing some research for her MA dissertation, which involves holding a feminist science fiction writing workshop. She is interested in exploring women's visions of change through science fiction storytelling.

The workshop will involve two sessions of about 3 hours each, held a week apart between July 18 and July 31 (date and time will be determined based on participants' availability). The workshop will be organized as follows:

Session 1: An introduction to feminist science fiction. We will talk about what science fiction is, and what makes science fiction feminist. We will read some feminist science fiction short stories to get an idea of the themes and issues that can be explored in feminist sf. After this, you will be asked to write a short science fiction story for the next session, a week later.

Session 2: A week after the introductory session, we will meet again to discuss the stories. Stories will be critiqued, and you will also be given a chance to discuss your writing process for this story.

This workshop is open to anybody who likes to write and who identifies as female. It is an excellent opportunity to explore a new fiction genre. If you are interested in participating and are available in Lahore for two three-hour sessions between the above dates, please Mehreen a message with your contact information and availability.
