Date: 25 - 26 June 2011
Nature is a complete work of art, a masterpiece of our divine being. For centuries, nature has been a great source of inspiration for countless artists irrespective of art disciplines. Writers, painters, sculptors, filmmakers, photographers, musicians and architects made use of nature as ornament, design or central theme/idea of their artistic creation. Others draw on nature to show its importance in our daily lives and encourage them to save it.
For early Filipinos, nature and art are not separate. Art forms of our folks are deeply related to indigenous concept of earth, and of nature, which is viewed as Mother. Fertility of land is respectfully nurtured, coaxed, and symbolized in myriad dances, musical and literary forms and art objects. Therefore, nature must be protected from various destructions and should be taken care of for our generation and generation to come.
SINING-KALIKASAN is a convergence of artists from various art disciplines and other stakeholders who advocate for the conservation and preservation of our environment. It aims to further artists’ commitment to instill, inculcate and nurture in them and to our brothers and sisters a genuine concern for nature and of our environment. Likewise, the event is a celebration of the creativity and artistry of Dasmarineños and a synergy of creative forces from various sectors whose desire is to make the earth a healthy place to live in. The celebration is in line with the Presidential Proclamation Order No. 237, Series of 1988, declaring every month of June as Philippine Environment Month.
