Events planned in celebration of UP’s Rizal Sesquicentenary Celebration include a parade on Rizal’s date of birth called “Lakaran” which aims to honor in-campus artworks dedicated to Rizal and his legacy, a photo exhibit of Rizal monuments in the country and abroad from April to June 2011, an international conference titled “Rizal in the 21st Century: Local and Global Perspectives,” an essay-writing contest and a staging of Felipe Padilla de Leon and Guillermo Tolentino’s opera Noli Me Tangere in November.
The University of the Philippines’ College of Arts and Letters will be sponsoring the nationwide essay writing contest in June 2011 titled Diwang Bayan. It will be open to college students from all schools in the Philippines. Details forthcoming.
