Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance’s Arts and Culture Council will be hosting a Poetry Contest as one of the many events taking place in recognition of Thaalam 2011. The subject and theme of the poem can be about dance and/or contain an inspirational message for the youth. This contest will serve as a platform for encouraging youth with the interest and passion for writing poetry.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 30 are encouraged to participate in this contest. Poems must be submitted online to arts.culture@ctya.org no later than 6:00pm on Sunday, May 10, 2011.
Author of the winning poem will receive two complimentary tickets to Thaalam 2011
General Contest Guidelines:
* The contest is open to all youth between the ages of 13 and 30
* Applicants may only submit one submission to the contest. Submissions must be original.
* Poems must be submitted as attachments to arts.culture@ctya.org with the authour’s name, age and contact information.
* All poems submitted to be part of the Poetry competition will be accepted no later than 6:00pm on Sunday, May 10, 2011.
* Poetry is prohibited from containing any inappropriate language that may be discriminatory, harassing or offensive in nature. CTYA retains the right to disqualify any submissions believed to be inappropriate or offensive.
* The submitted poetry entries will be subject to approval by the Arts and Culture Council.
* The winning entry may be used or displayed in CTYA’s publications, blog and other material.
* Upon submission of the poem entry to the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (“CTYA”), the authour(s) grant(s) full property rights of the poem over to the CTYA. For further clarification, the authour acknowledges that CTYA has the right to reproduce the poem in whole or in part, and to display the poem to the public through any other digital forms, whether or not in combination with the works of others.
Specific Guidelines:
* The theme and subject of the poem can be about dance and/or contain an inspirational message for the youth
* Poetry must not exceed 100 lines in length.
* Any form of poetry will be acceptable.
* Winners of the poetry competition will be determined through online voting. All poetry entries that meet the requirements will be posted to CTYA’s Blog individually. The winning entry will be chosen based on the number of votes received on CTYA’s Blog under the poem’s specific entry. Voters must comment under the post saying “I vote” to be considered a vote. The votes will then be tallied, and the poem which receives the most votes will be the winning poem.
