Press Now is looking for a Lecturer & project coordinator for Afghanistan

Based in Mazar e Sharif, Afghanistan

Purpose of the job

Press Now has several projects in the north of Afghanistan as well as several project plans. Press Now works together with the Balkh University to improve the journalism education. A part of this project is the provision of a international journalism lecturer. You will teach journalism at Balkh University and initiate and coordinate Press Now’s projects in Afghanistan.

Main Tasks and Functions

- To teach four courses in broadcast journalism at Balkh University

- To improve the journalism curriculum at Balkh University

- To build up a strong cooperation relationship between Press Now and Balkh University

- To support the journalists union in Mazar e Sharif

- To coordinate the Press Now projects in Bamiyan

- To establish a radio station in Shotepa

- To write financial and narrative reports;

- To seek to support other universities in improving their journalism curriculum

Required skills and experience

- You are an experienced journalist and are able to transfer your skills;

- You can demonstrate at least 4 years of relevant work experience in journalism and/or development of which at least 1 year internationally, and ideally have previous experience working in a fragile state;

- You have experience and knowledge of project cycle management, financial management and people management;

- You work well in a team, are a good organizer, have outstanding social and intercultural skills and are able to take decisions in a fast-moving context.

- You have skills in coaching/capacity building/coordination;

- You are able and ready to live in Afghanistan and to be based there for a longer time;

- You have good communication skills and fluent command of English both in writing and speaking. Knowledge of Dari, Tadjik, or Turkmen is an asset;

- Experience in teaching and working as a trainer is an asset.

Terms and conditions

- The employee will be contracted by Press Now according to Dutch labour legislation;

- Fulltime contract for six months (with possibility of extension);
