The Company
Few organizations can keep up with the fast-paced, 24/7 nature of today's media coverage; even fewer can claim to have helped shape it. Bloomberg has long been a leading source of data and news and presents one of the most challenging environments in financial journalism. Bloomberg offers a unique opportunity to produce real-time stories that shape the markets and our world.
The Role
Bloomberg News is seeking AN editor to join our News Data team in our Singapore or Hong Kong office to expand current and build new data coverage of economics, commodities and energy for China and Taiwan. The person in this role will extract data from various sources under real-time deadline pressure and will survey economists ahead of indicators to gauge and set market expectations. The candidate will need to be fast and accurate in taking data and turning it into table-based stories for our clients, working closely with other reporters and editors to help with our news coverage.
There is also an analytical aspect to the role where a candidate will be expected to contribute ideas for charts and stories and "connect the dots" on various points of data.
The ideal candidate will have an education in economics or finance, Excel proficiency including VBA, a self starter and the ability to work under deadline pressure.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
-Experience covering or working with economic indicators and financial data.
-Understanding of economics to determine what data releases are important enough to cover and what data within those releases should be emphasized
-Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential
-Ability to write introductions and headlines for economic data tables in English.
-Ability to use Excel spreadsheets is essential; knowledge of VBA is a must.
-Experience working in a real-time news environment is a plus
-Creative and analytical thinking
