East Asia Writing Project's Writing Workshop at Hong Kong International School
Dates: 14 - 23 June 2011

EAWP Writing Workshop at HKIS this summer

Calling all would-be-writers, reluctant writers, compulsive writers, non-writers. Come and join us at Hong Kong International School for East Asia Writing Workshop in June.

Who is eligible? Anyone of high school age or over. Teachers and students of course, but parents and grandparents, members of the Hong Kong community are also welcome. With Judith and Janet, the course directors, you can be part of a writing community.

When is it? You will need ten days. June 14 to 23 with a weekend off in the middle!

What will you do? Write, write, write, talk, read, listen. Learn strategies, gain confidence, independence, and time to write. In this workshop we won't tell you what you should do, we will show you what you can do.

Teachers: enjoy the unique opportunity to work with students as fellow writers, with time to work on your own writing, to talk with others, to discover new approaches to your own writing, and to teaching your classes.

Students: come and work with teachers as fellow writers, writing for yourself, learning strategies for attacking with confidence the kinds of writing expected of you in high school and university. Strategies for writing on demand - exam questions, SAT writing, timed reading and writing, college essays. Read what published writers say about writing, write as a reporter, a journalist, a poet, a comic. Take a look at what past students have to say about it here.

Parents: join us to work on your own writing, to talk about writing with students, teachers and other parents, to become familiar with approaches and strategies that work for adults and students alike, to build confidence in yourself, and to support your own children as writers.

Questions we have been asked over the years:

Do I need to be a good writer to take this course? No, anyone interested in working on their writing can take this course.

Do I need to be fluent and correct in English? No, this course will help written and spoken English.

Is this a course for English teachers? Not just English teachers, and not just teachers. This course is for everyone.

Graduate credit is available from SUNY Buffalo if you want it.
