Job Opening: Writing Instructor for Horizons Learning Center (China)
About Employer:

New Horizons is Shanghai’s fastest growing English-language enrichment school for academic and creative writing, reading, SSAT, SAT, TOEFL, and GMAT. Since 2006, we have specialized in preparing international-school students for study in America’s most prestigious boarding schools and universities.

Work Location: Shanghai

Job Description:

Because of our growing number of students and student interests, New Horizons has expanded and opened a new division: Horizons Learning Center. Horizons Learning Center focuses on academic writing workshops and enrichment courses. All of our courses are developed and planned by our instructors, so you must be capable of collaborating well with others and developing course curriculum. We have ample materials from abroad and provide our instructors with the necessary time and support for planning.

Currently, our writing program is divided into the following four categories: Early Years (Grades 4-5), Middle Years (Grades 6-7), Upper Years (Grades 8-9), and Pre-AP/IB (9-11). We prefer that you have the ability to teach a range of age levels, but also respect that you may have developed an expertise with a particular age group. This semester we’ve also launched several enrichment courses including: Fantasy Writing, Vocabulary and Roots through Illustration, and Current Events and Debate. We encourage our instructors to plan courses that both they and students are passionate about. Our classes are small and never exceed 12 students. Our administration is American and all of our instructors come from North America. To emphasize, all of our students already speak English. This is not your typical Chinese-run after school program.

Our main office is located in Hongqiao district in Gubei. From the central part of the French Concession it is approximately a 25 kuai cab ride, from Jingan district 30 kuai. We are located in the vicinity of LoShanGuan Lu Subway Station (Line 2) and CaoHeJin Subway Station (Line 9).

Our ideal candidate must be confident with teaching students who are native English speakers and have at least 1 year of teaching experience. We are looking for an instructor with classroom presence, enthusiasm, and strong work ethic.

This is a position that requires you to work WEEKENDS during the academic school year. However, during summer, our program runs during the weekdays, thus our instructors have Saturdays and Sundays off. Please DO NOT apply for this position if you can’t work weekends during the school year!
Our typical office hours end at 7p.m.

We provide a working visa and health insurance.

Job requirements:

  • Must be able to start work this summer
  • Must be a native English speaker from North America
  •
Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an American university
  • Must have at least one year of teaching experience

  • Must have a positive and outgoing personality
  •
