Job Opening: News Writer for Middle East Broadcasting Networks (job location: Washington, DC)
Only candidates who are fluent in verbal and written Classic Arabic and English will be considered.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Writer is responsible for gathering information and writing material for shows by preparing, writing and copy editing assigned stories into scripts. The Writer will work closely with the Senior Producer and producing team to create factual, clear, concise and interesting copy for the show. Show Writers are responsible for reading and checking everything in the run-down that goes live for the show if it is pre-written.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

-Develop and write scripts for the show in classical Arabic with clarity, accuracy and balance
-Gathers information on issues and events of a regional and international significance from a variety of sources
-Copy edits scripts for accuracy, factual content, pronunciation, grammar and spelling
-Perform under deadline pressure
-Complete writing assignments (including re-writes) for programs, live events and features
-Maintain a knowledge of current International and U.S. events
-Conduct on-line research for difficult story assignments
-Work closely with producers and directors in developing script and format
-Revise script until producer approval

OTHER:

• Assist producers up to and including line producing, as requested.
• The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances
• Work is often performed in a fast paced environment

Skills

• Bi-lingual in verbal and written Classic Arabic and English
• Bachelors degree (Journalism or Broadcast Journalism is preferred)
• 3 -5years experience writing international news or news magazine shows
• Experience with digital news broadcasting
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to work effectively with all levels of management
• Strong computer and database skills
• Exercise self-discipline and time-management skills
• Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news environment. This may require overnight coverage.
