Deadline: 15 March 2011 (early), 15 May 2011 (final)

The 2011 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) is now accepting submissions for the following:

  • Feature Length Film (Narrative or Documentary) (40 mins+)
  • Short Film (1-39 mins)

Notification Date: Filmmakers will be notified by or before 8/30/11

Submit here.

Why submit to PAAFF?

* We’re the first and only Asian American film festival in the Philadelphia region.
* Films are screened and judged by film industry reps and our top films receive awards.
* Networking opportunities with filmmakers and talent throughout the country.

Eligibility:

* Films must be directed, produced, or principally acted by an Asian Pacific Islander.
* If the director is non-Asian, the film’s subject matter must involve Asians.
* Foreign language films must have English subtitles.

Fees:

* Unfortunately we cannot waive submission fees for non-Philadelphia based filmmakers as we are an all volunteer run festival relying on fees to support our operations. Please note our fees were reduced for 2011 and are very competitive.
* We encourage you to submit prior to the early deadline (3/15/11) for the Early Bird fee.
* If you are a filmmaker that currently resides in the Philadelphia area and your film meets the eligibility requirements of our festival, you may contact us for a fee waiver at info@phillyasianfilmfest.org. You will be asked to verify.

Submissions:

* Please do not send your film with signature confirmation or it will be returned to you. Our PO Box cannot sign for your package. Please check your film’s status on Withoutabox to see if it is received.
* If you submitted a film and it doesn’t show “In Consideration” in Withoutabox, please be patient and allow 2-3 weeks for the status to change.
* We accept submissions from all levels of filmmakers (student, amateur and professional) and all types of films, including Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Music Video and Experimental.
* Works in progress will be considered, but keep in mind we will be judging your work as is and we cannot extend our deadlines to see a finished cut.
* We strongly encourage filmmakers to submit Secure Online Screeners in lieu of DVDs. (For more info visit: Withoutabox.com) If you choose to submit DVDs, you must send us 3 DVD copies/screeners of your film as we have a large programming committee based in Philadelphia and New York and it is to your advantage to have your film seen by as many people as possible.
*Please don’t submit dvd screeners in dvd box cases. Please use “clamshell” or similar small plastic cases. We aren’t impressed by artwork, only the film’s content.
*Dvd screeners will not be returned unless shipped with an SASE.
