Background

The objectives of IFES CEPPS Support for Increased Electoral Participation in Afghanistan project is to support the effective and educated participation of Afghan voters and to encourage transparent and accountable elections through increased citizen participation in the electoral process. The project is part of the Consortium for Election and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), and it is funded by USAID. Program activities will include voter outreach, training of the press corps on how to cover elections, a university election education program, an internet and mobile phone initiative focused on elections, and political finance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under direction of the Website Chief Editor (WCE) the Website English Editor (WEED) will undertake the following but not limited to activities:

• Liaise with journalists across the country, in cooperation with the Communications Officer;
• Edit reports sent by journalists across the country for publishing in English on the website;
• Assist in development of training materials for Journalism Workshops;
• Manage correspondence and file materials related to website activities;
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

At least 5 years of relevant and progressive experience in website journalism and/or written communication;

1. Excellent writing and editing skills in English;
2. Experience with a variety of data collection methodologies and accompanying analyses, including surveys, interviews and focus group discussions;
3. Knowledge of a variety of journalist education activities including seminars; media, material preparation and presentation;
4. Knowledge of Expression Engine is considered an advantage;
5. Prior professional experience in an international and/or civil society working environment is considered an advantage;
6. Knowledge of video editing programs, especially Adobe Premier is an advantage;
7. Knowledge of relevant software applications, including MS word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and other MS-based editing and document layout-out applications.

The successful incumbent should be willing to perform official duties outside regular working hours as required.

Language:

- Fluency in speaking, reading and writing in English,
- Fluency in speaking, reading and writing in Dari.
