Editor / Writer
Job Summary:
* To develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal.
* To plan the contents of publications according to the publication’s style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements.
* To prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
* To confer with Management and editorial staff members regarding placement and emphasis of developing new stories
* To assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage
* To read, evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication.
* To Supervise and coordinate work of reporters and other editors.
* To read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax.
* To verify facts, dates and statistics, using standard reference sources.
* To allocate print space for story text, photos and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles.
* To arrange for copyright permissions
* To make manuscript acceptance or revision recommendations to the publisher.
* To monitor news-gathering operations to ensure utilization of all news sources, such press releases, telephone contacts, television, wire services, and other reporters
* To meet frequently with artists, typesetters,layout personnel, marketing directors, and production managers to discuss projects and resolve problems.
Requirements:
* Degree holder with majoring in Journalism, English would be preferred
* Strong oral and written communication skills are a must
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
* Be able to multi-task, result-oriented, work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Minimum experience 2-4 years in a similar position as an editor of a publication, same goes for a contributing writer.
* Ability to take quality travel pictures is a bonus.
* Dynamic, responsible, committed, good team player, able to handle intense pressure on tight deadlines
