Salary Range: 500 USD - 600 USD/month

Background:

AMI is a French Non Governmental Organization, which has been working for health training and supports in Afghanistan since 1979. AMI operates in the capital city Kabul and in the Central and Eastern regions Kunar.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

General responsibilities: AMI has launched in 1994, Salamati Magazine. The Magazine is a distance learning tool for Afghan Community Health Workers. Its aims are to improve the quality of medical services provided by Afghan Community Health Workers and to promote key health messages and proper practices. Salamati is a quarterly magazine. 25.000 copies are printed and distributed in all the 34 provinces of Afghanistan. It is the responsibility of the chief editor to make sure the magazine is published in due time and in accordance with Ministry of Public Health policies and values.

1: Publication/Edition

Activities/Main duties:

 Call and animate editorial committee meetings and contribute to the definition of each issue’s editorial line.
 Find medical contributors from other NGOs, international agencies and Ministry of Public Health for Salamati magazine.
 Research updated information (guidelines, reports, protocols) concerning health in Afghanistan.
 Write medical articles according to editorial line defined for each issue.
 Translate the articles in Dari and Pashto/ English.
 Proofread the articles (edition process) and adapt them to our target readers if needed.
 Work on photos and illustration.
 Manage the publication of bi-monthly internal AMI mission newsletter, supervising the journalist who writes the contents.
Manage proofing and printing process of the magazine and newsletter with partner printer

Objective 2: Management

Activities/Main duties:

 Follow the relationships with external consultants (contributors, illustrator, design agency, printer).
 Supervise the activities of the journalist and Kabul distribution officer
 Contribute to the writing of proposal and fund raising activities.

Objective 3: Public relations

Activities/Main duties:

 Represent Salamati magazine to partners and officials
 Strengthen partnerships with local authorities, UN Agencies, NGOs.

Qualifications

- To have a deep knowledge in health care and Afghan Public Health Policy (being a fully trained doctor is a plus).
- Strong writing, reporting and editing skills--verifiable.
- To be fluent in English (written, spoken, read), in Dari and in Pashto.
- Experience in International Organizations or Afghan Association will be a plus.
- To be computer literate: Word, Excel (Photoshop and Coreldraw will be a plus).
