Stars and Stripes, the independent daily newspaper devoted to covering the U.S. military, is seeking an intrepid reporter to join our news bureau in Japan. Based in Sasebo, Japan, this reporter will cover the Sasebo Naval Base and the Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station, producing a mix of local stories affecting those communities and broader enterprise pieces of interest to the worldwide military audience that Stars and Stripes serves.
We seek a curious and hungry reporter with a keen eye for compelling stories. And we want a multimedia, web-savvy journalist who is as comfortable taking great photographs and recording compelling video as writing riveting ledes, taut nut grafs and authoritative big-picture analyses.
If you're looking to make a name for yourself as an Asia-based foreign correspondent, we offer the chance to join a scrappy, award-winning newspaper (in 2009 we won a Polk and a National Headliner Award) that has become a must-read for anyone interested in America's military. The salary range is $35,000-$50,000, plus a full package of federal benefits that includes a housing allowance and cost-of-living adjustments.
