Required Knowledge
* 3 years of experience as an editor. Those having s minimum one year of experience in editing technical manuscripts will be given preference.
* Masters in science from a university of repute.
* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills.
* Good time management skills and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Position Summary
To monitor the entire process of preparation of manuscripts to ensure that high-quality manuscripts are submitted into production in time (adhering to strict deadlines) and carry out final quality-check on drafted manuscripts for discrepancies with respect to language, structure, consistency, flow, and specifications.
Roles and Responsibilities
* To set realistic and achievable writing schedules for manuscripts under development in conjunction with the Senior Acquisitions Editor.
* To monitor and manage the writing of manuscripts to ensure that deadlines are met and final manuscripts are delivered by the due date specified on the proposal or contract (as applicable) in conjunction with the Publishing Editor, unless prevented by factors beyond control.
* To review the format, specifications, and features of the proposed title to determine whether an existing design or artwork can be re-used.
* To advise the authors and Publishing Editor on the most cost-effective method of manuscript presentation (e.g. cut and paste) for new editions or adaptations.
* To educate authors on how well to present their manuscripts in accordance with the guidelines laid down by Wiley India and the benefits of doing so.
* To check the first draft of each chapter to ensure that the features and structure, as determined by the Publishing Editor in the publishing proposal, have been incorporated by the author(s), perform editorial reviews to ensure that the manuscript conforms to the Editorial and Production requirements, monitor the quality of writing for each title, including maintaining consistency of ideas across all stages of the workflow, and advise authors and/or the Publishing Editor regarding any necessary corrective action.
* To check the second (and subsequent) drafts to ensure that all editorial comments on the first draft, as agreed to by the Publishing Editor, have been addressed by the author(s).
* To educate authors on proper disk/file management and the importance of matching disks with hard copies.
* To ensure that the final manuscript is complete and conforms to the specifications laid down in the publishing proposal or the contract (as applicable).
* To carry out the responsibilities of a project editor as and when necessary: WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES.
* To understand and demonstrate compliance with the company’s guidelines for best conduct for employee’s policy.
* To follow a safe system of work as instructed by supervisory staff, management, or the Workplace Health and Safety Officer.
* To demonstrate effective communication and listening skills.
* To communicate with the employees with respect and sensitivity to gender and cultural differences.
