The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chinese language and culture to begin August 2011. Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2011. The research specialization is open to any genre and period, although a primary interest in modern Chinese literature, culture, and film studies is preferred. Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English are required. Successful candidates will be familiar with contemporary theories of second language acquisition, have a record of excellence in teaching Chinese at the American university/college level and have demonstrated scholarly promise. Teaching load: five courses per year. Candidates from backgrounds typically underrepresented in higher education are strongly encouraged to apply. As Rhodes continues to diversify its student body, we also seek candidates with experience working with students from different backgrounds.
