This role will work with Japan online desk in Tokyo, plays an important role in ensuring the appropriate content is available, packaged and displayed on reuters.co.jp website to engage the target audience of influential, and drive page views and revenue. The candidates must identify relevant news and data in multimedia formats to display on the site, while translating English stories into Japanese that matter to our target audience.
* Use in depth knowledge of the target consumer audiences to drive content, presentation and packaging
* Select, re-purpose and re-package existing Reuters and relevant third-party content according to audience needs
* Manage the re-writing of headlines and/or stories as well as the editing of content for consumer audiences, as necessary
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of target audiences and their local market needs/trends
* Produce stories that matter to the target consumer audiences by translating English stories into Japanese in a timely and accurate manner, while also editing translation copies done by others in or outside the team to ensure speed and accuracy of the files.
* Manage contents on different types of platforms so that news contents will be presented in a compelling manner.
* Use variety of tools/contents to enhance engagement of audience, such as blogs, twitters and news letters.
Qualifications
* In depth knowledge and deep expertise in online publishing and/or production and/or broadcasting and/or wire service journalism.
* In depth knowledge of one or more of the target audience groups with a proven track record of working in a related environment
* Excellent news judgment relative to the target audiences, ability to make very fast and intuitive decisions around content and presentation
* Understands and adheres to Thomson Reuters standards and principles
* Excellent skills to copytaste, translate (English to Japanese) and edit stories, which are relevant as contents for Japan online operations
* Good team player
* The desk works in a shift and operates seven days a week.
