Reuters Chinese Language News Service is looking for a top-notch sub-editor to run its editing desk in Greater China, ensuring timings are won, complex policies are explained and enough communication is done with domestic and international service colleagues in Greater China. The successful candidate is required to implement strictly Reuters standards and value into our day-to-day file, making sure it fully meets Reuters trust principle. He or she must guarantee our stories are properly sourced, and our analyses have the right structure, regional perspective and cross-asset angle required for our clients across Greater China. The successful candiate needs to work closely with the Chinese Service's translation team to create more synergy and get heavily involved in newsplanning, be a champion on new editorial and technologies and provide proper feedback to the work of sub-editors and reporters.
Responsibilities
* Help to provide day-to-day leadership through newsplanning and feedback
* Set, communicate and enforce Reuters news standards and strategies
* Edit and file stories
* Help achieve timing targets for the Chinese service team
* Promote Reuters Chinese news to divisional heads, local sales and clients
* Liaise with senior colleagues to provide mentorship, coaching and tutorials to staffers
Qualifications
* Strong news judgement. Can make stories sing and see the big picture
* A person with ideas, strategies and high standards -- and the organisational skills to implement them.
* A self-starter who sets priorities and sticks to them.
* A leader who works with reporters and sub-editors to produce a top-notch news file.
* Strong people skills. Able to work under pressure.
* At least five years of editing/filing experience with a credible news organisation
