South Asian Exec is a newly launched e-magazine focused on covering the South Asian community in the DC area. It will provide unique insights about South Asian personalities, latest news, and community happenings on a monthly basis.
Each issue celebrates the South Asian lifestyle, revealing the spirit of its people and the flavor of its past in a friendly, conversational tone. Feature articles and profiles on what’s in it for the reader, bringing home the story in a useful, personal way that touches their lives directly.
The position is part-time, and will run from early September 2010 through the end of January 2011, with a possible extension. For the right person this should be a great learning experience. This probably means somebody who wants to learn the nuts-and-bolts of on-line media organization, how to build a personal brand and learning from the movers and shakers in the South Asian community. The position is intended for a current student in journalism, or perhaps for someone working in another field who wants to switch careers.
This is a part-time position that should run about 15 to 20 hours a week on average. Most of the work can be done remotely. There is a small stipend. For college or graduate students, if you can arrange credit as part of a journalism or writing program, all the better. (You still keep the small stipend, as long as your college doesn't prohibit it.) Wordpress backgorund is helpful.
Primary duties include would include reporting and writing well researched, authoritative and provocative articles every week. You must have your own computer, phone, etc. You can do most of the work remotely, however, it would be great to collobrate via Skype.
