Undergraduate scholarships for national and international students in the field of Communication Studies and Journalism,Canada

This scholarship for Communication Studies and Journalism students was established in 2003 through the generosity of Rogers Sportsnet Inc. The scholarship is open to full-time Undergraduate students in their second year of studies (or higher) in the Communication Studies and Journalism departments, with a goal of entering into a career in the areas of Sports Journalism or Sports Broadcasting. Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, and International students are eligible to apply.

The Rogers Sportsnet Scholarship program is intended for students from groups that are under-represented in the fields of Sports Journalism and Sports Broadcasting: visible minorities, aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, and other groups who without the recognition afforded by this scholarship program, might not be represented in the profession in meaningful numbers. The University selection committee for this scholarship program will select candidates whom they determine will make a valuable contribution to their chosen field of study.

Please Note: While preference will be given to qualified candidates from these aforementioned under-represented groups, all students meeting the basic academic and program requirements are eligible to apply for consideration. In the event of candidates with equal qualifications as judged by the selection committee, preference will be given to students in the under-represented groups cited above.

All Applicants must submit:
- Two letters of recommendation,
- A personal statement (essay) expressing their interest in Sports Journalism or Sports Broadcasting, setting out their interest in and commitment to their chosen field of study, and the ways in which the scholarship will assist them in the pursuit of their studies, as well as the fulfilment of their personal and professional aspirations.

Scholarship Number and Value:
2 at $3,500.00 each (one in Communication Studies, one in Journalism)

Academic Qualifications:
– Minimum Last Annual Grade Point Average of 3.30 for 2009-2010,
- Full-time enrolment in the Communication Studies or Journalism departments,
- 2nd year of studies or higher in 2010-2011.

Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship must provide their letters of recommendation and their personal statement with their completed application form. Letters of reference must be submitted in sealed envelopes. Applications and supporting material must be submitted by the above deadline to the Service Assistant in the Undergraduate Awards Office in room GM-220 of the Guy Metro Building on the downtown campus.

The Financial Aid and Awards Office will provide the University selection committee with candidate applications, and student records. It is not necessary for candidates to supply a copy of their Concordia record with their submission. Submissions lacking any supporting documents will not be forwarded to the University selection committee. Two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement, are obligatory.
