About the Instructor: Ramsey Tesdell lives in Amman, Jordan and travels frequently around the region. A co-founder of 7iber.com, he works with communities around the Middle East, and is particularly interested in using new media as an outlet of expression, a space for critical conversations, and organizing collective actions. For Ramsey, new media is a powerful medium to bring people together (physically and virtually) in order to positively contribute to their society.

About the workshop: This course will cover many aspects of social and new media, with a primary focus on blogs and storytelling. Several issues will be covered through combination of instruction, practical application, discussion, and directed activities. These topics included:

Starting a blog, Introduction to the Arab Blogosphere, Writing for the WWW, Stories and storytelling, Social networking and social bookmarks, Security and Ethics, Citizen Journalism, Creative Commons, Maps, and Mashups.

The course is taught in Arabic. Student writing can be in either Arabic or English.
