Types of Scholarship
Scholarship to be granted can be of three types:
1. Academic Scholarship. Given to those applicants with good and demonstrated academic qualifications.
2. Art Scholarship. Given to those applicants with good and demonstrated artistic talents in the performing arts (e.g, singing, classical, traditional, or folk dancing, stage acting, violin, piano, etc.), visual arts (e.g., drawing, sketches, painting, etc.), sculpture (using any medium), written arts (e.g., poems, novels, essays, short stories, etc.), and any form of artistic expression as may be considered by the Kabataang Pilipino Board of Trustees.
3. Handicapped Scholarship. Given to those applicants with physical disabilities such as amputated arms, hands, legs, polio victims, full or partially blind, deaf, mute, hair lip, or any form of physical disability considered by the Kabataang Pilipino Board of Trustees.
Qualifications and Requirements
The scholarship program is open to all highly-motivated Filipino youth who are academically and/or artistically inclined/gifted or handicapped individuals satisfying the following qualifications:
A. General Qualifications:
* Annual family income of less than P100,000 as proven by a BIR-validated Income Tax Return or any other proof of income validated/certified/issued by the applicant's Barangay of residence
* No immediate family member has been granted in the past with a Kabataang Pilipino scholarship grant
* Has a strong desire to pursue and finish education and the belief that "education" is the answer to the Philippines' development and progress.
* Submitted a handwritten Letter of Request for Scholarship (in native or English language although the latter is preferred for the sake of foreign donors) to the Kabataang Pilipino Board of Trustees
* Certificate of residency and good moral character from the Barangay of residence and any two of the applicant's past teachers, instructors, or professors or any verifiable character references
* Also to be submitted once the applicant is finally selected as a grantee is the Kabataang Pilipino Covenant of Partnership to be executed between KPI and the grantee's parents or legal guardian(s) in order to formalize the partnership nature of the grant. This Covenant emphasizes the important role that parents/legal guardians play in the successful completion of their child's education through the scholarship grants provided by KPI.
B. Academic Scholarship
* For elementary applicants, general weighted average of at least 85% or equivalent in the immediate/previous year from the date of application to this program and should be at least an incoming 4th grader at the time of the scholarship grant.
* Endorsed by the adviser and/or principal of the school where the applicant is studying or going to study.
* For high school applicants, general weighted average of at least 85% or equivalent in the immediate/previous year from the date of application to this program and should be at least an incoming 1st year HS student at the time of the scholarship grant.
* Endorsed by the adviser and/or principal of the school where the applicant is studying or going to study.
* For college applicants, general weighted average of at least 85% or equivalent OR no failing grades on all subjects taken in the immediate school year from the time of application. Applicant should also be at least an incoming freshman at the time of the scholarship grant.
* For vocational applicants, priority shall be given to those taking up any IT-related courses (e.g., programming, web designing, etc.). Other courses may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Board of Trustees.
C. Art Scholarship (any educational level)
* For applicants with talents in the visual and written arts, sculpture, or any form of physical arts, submit sample(s) of work to the KP Screening/Selection Committee for evaluation. All submitted work samples by applicants become the property of KPI.
* For applicants with talents in the performing arts, please arrange an appropriate schedule with the KP Screening/Selection Committee to demonstrate the talent.
D. Handicapped Scholarship (any educational level)
* Medical certification from a doctor or attending physician
* Recently taken (i.e., not older than 3 months) color photographs to show proof of disability/handicap.
Note: The preceding qualifications and requirements may change without notice as the KP Board of Trustees may see fit to change.
Amount/Nature of Awards/Assistance
Depending on the availability of funds, below is an example of the amount/nature of awards/assistance provided by KPI this school year:
Elementary: 4,000 per year
High School: 7,000 per year
Vocational: 4,000 per course
College: 5,000 per semester (for two semestral system); 4,000 per semester (for tri-semestral system)
Notes:
1. Students can enter public or private educational institutions as preferred.
2. Grant amount to be used as tuition or miscellaneous fees and/or allowances.
3. A scholar is required to apply for a BDO (Banco De Oro) cash card where his/her allowance will be deposited. The name of the scholar should be the one to appear on her BDO cash card and not any one of his/her parents.
4. Allowances will be deposited to each scholar's individual BDO cash card after submission of all scholars' grades per grading period for elementary and high school students and per semester for college students.
Application Periods:
* For elementary and HS students: April 01 to 30 of each calendar year
* For vocational students: Open
* For college students:
o Standard two-semestral periods: April 01 to 30 of each calendar year for the First Semester Term and October 01 to 31 of each calendar year for the Second Semester Term
o Tri-mestral periods: A month before each semester begins
Grade/Report Card Submission:
* For elementary and HS students: within one week from the release of the grading period grades
* For vocational and college students: Within one week from the release of the semestral period grades.
When to Receive the Allowances:
* For elementary and HS scholars, their allowances will be deposited to their BDO (Banco de Oro) cash cards immediately after receipt of their grades for the grading period.
* On cases where the release of grades of the elementary and HS scholars coincide with the release of grades of the college scholars, the allowances of the elementary and HS scholars will be released at the same time with the college scholars after all the grades of all scholars are submitted.
* Should one scholar fail to submit his/her grades after all the scholars have submitted theirs, the allowances of the scholars who have submitted their grades will be released except the one scholar who failed to submit hers/his.
