Soundings Review Prose and Poetry Contests
Deadline: six to eight weeks before each issue

Soundings Review sponsors three contests: Founders' Circle for all genres; First Publication for writers who have never been published in a nationally advertised and distributed publication; and Readers' Choice Award, selected by readers of the magazine. In addition, Soundings Review will publish the winning entry of the Whidbey Island Writers' Conference Benefactor's Award and the Association's Spirit of Writing Contest. Submit entries for the Founders’ Circle and First Publication awards to:

Founders Circle

All genres, prose and poetry

Length: poetry up to two pages; prose (fiction or nonfiction) up to 3,000 words

Reading fee: $5 for WIWA members; $7 for nonmembers

Winner receives publication and $300

Follow standard submission guidelines for magazine: 12 pt. Times Roman font, double space prose, include small SASE for response or larger envelope for return of manuscript.

Write “Founders Circle Contest” on manuscript.

First Publication Contest

Eligibility: For those never before published in a publication open to national submissions nor in a publication advertised nationally

Reading fee: $5 for WIWA members; $7 for nonmembers
We reserve the right to not select a winner in the event submissions do not meet the quality standards of Soundings Review; reading fees will not be returned.

Winner receives publication and $100.

Follow standard submission guidelines for magazine: 12 pt. Times Roman font, double space prose, include small SASE for response or larger envelope for return of manuscript.

Write "First Publication Contest " on the manuscript.

All entries will be considered for publication.

Reader’s Choice Award

No fees. Selected by readers out of each publication. Winners will be announced in following publication. $100 award.
