Overseas Vietnamese Student Wins Czech Literary Award
An overseas Vietnamese student in the Czech Republic has won the country's literary award for unpublished works, a local news agency has reported. Pham Thi Lan, whose parents moved to Czech in the 1980s, is the youngest-ever winner of the annual competition held by the literary Kniho club since it was launched 14 years ago. Describing the daily life of the Vietnamese community and the travails faced as a result of racism, Lan, who is now studying in Malaysia, has also introduced many Vietnamese words and cultures into the story. Lan gets 50,000 CZK (US$2,804) in cash and support for publishing her awarding-winning work.
